voestalpine Railpro in Hilversum is a wholesaler in the field of rail infrastructure. The company -which employs 125 people- is located on the Nieuwe Crailoseweg, directly on the railway between Bussum and Hilversum. The enormous terrain of 2,6 kilometers long and 300 meters wide served in the last century as a 'depot' for railway materials of the Dutch Railways. In 1995 the Dutch Railways were split up and parts privatized. In 1996 the company Railpro was founded. From 2002, this became voestalpine Railpro, a 70% part of the Austrian voestalpine Metal Engineering (a wholly owned subsidiary of voestalpine AG). The remaining 30% is held in equal parts by Koninklijke BAM Groep NV, VolkerRail BV and Strukton Groep NV.
In addition to shunting and work sidings and open-air storage, the site includes four permanent buildings for production, storage and offices. There is a company emergency response organization of no less than 22 to 24 people. “This includes the safety personnel who are required to work on the track,” says work planner Ronald Weijerman. He is responsible for the emergency response team (BHV). “Our emergency response officers were always alerted by walkie-talkie and telephone. That is fairly cumbersome and time consuming. We started looking for a system for better and faster alarms for our first responders. After the necessary research, we arrived at Firecom in Lekkerkerk, which could fulfill all our wishes. We bought a stand alone emergency response call system. And every emergency response worker received a robust alarm receiver. It was completed in April 2016. Since then, there have been four internal calls for help, including a fall and someone with a leg injury. Fortunately not life-threatening. We notice that the response of the emergency response team to the calls is greater than before! This is also evident from the tests that we conduct regularly. All this benefits the health of the employees and the business process! ”, Says a satisfied Weijerman.
