Jaco Diemel is a Safety Instructor at the STC BV location at Heijplaat (Rotterdam). Practical training in the field of maritime safety and hazardous substances is mainly held here. Jaco was responsible for the selection and purchase from Firecom of several digital Motorola DP1400 two-way radios for the STC fire training center. “Prior to the practical courses, we hold a communication exercise with the new students. This shows that the students can handle the postage very well because they are easy to use ”, says Jaco. STC has purchased just as many man-down walkie-talkies for its 6 own instructors. This number will be expanded to 12 for the guest lecturers. The man down walkie-talkie alerts the reception when the instructor presses the alarm button. He or she can then immediately notify the emergency services on the emergency channel via the reception. These advanced walkie-talkies have already proven their worth. “One time a colleague was not well, the other time it was a student with heart problems. The instructor alerted the emergency response organization and was able to alert an ambulance via walkie-talkie. The fact that all walkie-talkies are digital is also a big advantage. Jaco: “The sound quality and intelligibility is much better than with analog portos. This makes a lot of difference, especially if the student is wearing breathing air. It is great progress! ”
