Animal ambulance Dieren4u in Hoogvliet-Rotterdam has been using 4G walkie-talkies since September, sponsored by C4IT. This telecom company launched 4G walkie-talkies in our country, with Firecom as a partner. Thanks to the reliable and excellent 4G network coverage in the Netherlands, there is always a connection with the other ports. The animal ambulance received a total of 8 walkie-talkies. Recently, 4 portos were tested in daily practice, the other four will be taken into use at the end of November. All 8 walkie-talkies have a dispatching application to see where they are.
“Currently three mobile teams of two people each carry a walkie-talkie in the animal ambulance, the other is in the emergency room or the office. The reactions are positive. It is quite a relief to be able to communicate so quickly and without any problems. The conversations are much clearer and the reach unlimited. That's great, especially compared to the previous regular two-way radios, ”says Raymond Sybesma. He is the initiator and advocate of Dieren4u, a 100% volunteer organization.
The working area of the animal ambulance Hoogvliet-Rotterdam is from the Maasvlakte to Ridderkerk. “We had regular walkie-talkies and two-way radios and that usually worked satisfactorily. But as soon as we got out of the area, the ability to talk to each other diminished! When a tanker ship leaked 220 tons of fuel oil in Derde Petroleumhaven near Rotterdam at the end of June, the volunteers were very busy to save all the swans. Our emergency room was overloaded. We didn't have these 4G walkie-talkies at the time. Because the area was out of reach of our then walkie-talkies, all communication with the volunteers there went by telephone. This made us unreachable. But with these walkie-talkies it communicates much better and the operator also keeps an overview. With one push of a button you have direct voice connection with a group or individual. This method of communication ensures peace and clarity ”.
