Royal IHC in Kinderdijk is an international company that provides services and solutions in areas such as dredging, mining and offshore wind energy. 1500 people work at IHC, 600 of whom are hired employees. Earlier this year, Firecom developed and installed an alarm system for the Royal IHC company fire brigade and emergency response team.

Fire and calamities on the 24-hectare company site must be reported to the porter via the internal emergency number. The porter on duty then activates the alarm receivers of members of the company fire brigade and / or emergency response team at the touch of a button. “He also enters the building number. That is very important when you know that we have 64 staffed buildings here ”, says Gerard Zwaan, responsible for company fire brigade and emergency response at IHC.

“After this first quick alert follows a second (further) message with some more information. The officials responsible for SHEQ are then alerted by SMS ”, says Zwaan. SHEQ stands for Safety, Health, Environment and Quality. ”Then the manager of the relevant department automatically receives an e-mail about the deployment. Finally, a number of key employees are personally alerted via alarm receiver, SMS or e-mail ”.

Zwaan: “Unfortunately, employees often call 1-1-2 out of habit in the event of a calamity, instead of our own internal emergency number. Our company fire brigade is then alerted via the national P2000 network by the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Emergency Center. In order to also be aware of these reports, Firecom has developed software so that these (external) reports for the company fire brigade also enter our system and are distributed via the above channels. Everyone is then informed and can take action if desired. We don't like to be surprised when it comes to important matters like this! ”.
