On Tuesday 4 June 2019, Esther Lieben, Commander of the Haaglanden Fire Brigade, signs the contract for new pagers (call system for incidents) with Firecom. By means of the new pagers, free-entry colleagues (volunteers from fire brigade) can provide assistance even faster.

The new pagers (Swissphone RES.Q flex pager) will ensure that the fire brigade can be present even faster during incidents. After an alarm, it is immediately visible in the barracks which volunteers are showing up. In this way there is an immediate picture of the preparedness and action can be taken if there are a shortage of free-entry colleagues.

Pagers for free-entry colleagues

The pagers are intended for free-entry colleagues from ten barracks of the Haaglanden Fire Brigade in Westland and Midden-Delfland. These colleagues do not work permanently in a barracks, but are only called up via the pagers when an incident occurs. The advantage of the new pager is that if the pager is triggered, the crew will provide feedback on availability. This was not possible before. With this new functionality it is determined more quickly whether a fire-fighting vehicle is fully manned. This allows us to be present at incidents even faster and to use our services.

Test phase

Five months ago, free-entry colleagues from Schipluiden barracks and Den Hoorn barracks started a test phase with the new pagers. The choice fell on the pagers of Firecom. This company specializes in solutions for rapid alerting of people and has reliable means of communication to communicate directly in a group. The pagers are user-friendly, not too big and the battery lasts longer.
